Heather's main hobby is learning stuff. Among other things, she's formally educated in fusion plasma physics, nuclear reactor and shielding design, radiological engineering and safety, radiation detection, business strategy, and entrepreneurship. After earning the industry's highest credentials as a physicist in nuclear power and authoring industry guidelines for hard to detect radionuclides, Heather went on to earn an MBA focused on innovation, entrepreneurship, and marketing, and serve as a business planner and strategist for the largest nuclear power plant in the US. During the MBA program, Heather moonlit as the leader of a medical technology startup. From there, she moved on to a role in technology assessment, where she helps her utility forge an affordable pathway to a carbon-free future, and mentors clean energy startups working to be part of the solution. Despite the long series of desk jobs, Heather is a pretty hands-on person. Her first job in nuclear was to build a robot that detected leaks in fusion plasma containment fields. To balance out all the desk time, Heather is a runner, a welder, an avid DIY-er, and maybe even almost enough of a gearhead to keep up with Steve and Nils. When Jon throws that craft brew party, Heather will be the one bringing home-baked New York cheesecake.
